“Stealing is wrong”, is something every human must have heard in either their homes or in their schools. Even if someone was not made familiar with this basic etiquette, one must have eventually realised the importance of this basic manner. But what if it’s an animal? Animals can be tough in some way or another, but that is only possible if that animal is a pet. So let’s jump to the more churned-out question, what if it is a wild animal who steals? What would you do? In fact, what CAN you even do?

Apparently, when facing the same situation, the Santa Cruz Police took to their Facebook page and alerted the people of the tiny furry menace. The accused here is a sea otter, who has been involved in four incidents so far, where the furry one was seen scratching or biting the surfboards of the surfers in the sea.

In a post that was shared with the caption, “Watch Out, West Cliff Surfers!  An aggressive sea otter in the area is biting, scratching, and climbing on surfboards. There have been four incidents of otter interactions with surfers in Santa Cruz. California Department of Fish and Wildlife said the sea otter is on their radar, and a team of experts is working to capture and relocate it,” the police department asked the surfers to stay alert.

However, the people soon came forward and pointed out the obvious nature of a wild animal and expressed their ire over the ‘relocation’ decision. Netizens further said that the otter is simply ‘existing in its own habitat’, meanwhile, it’s the humans who are invading the otter’s home.

“I think it’s time we capture the surfers and relocate them,” a user wrote. Further siding with the otter, another user wrote, “It’s their home, the surfers are invading the otters space. Why relocate the otter? Relocate the surfers, there are other surf spots along our coast line!”
