Viral Video: Starting a new job should be exciting, but for one employee, it turned into a shocking experience within just two weeks. After getting injured in a bike accident, the employee informed their manager about a broken leg, hoping for some support. What they got instead left people stunned. In a WhatsApp chat that’s now going viral, the manager texted, “Hey, just been told you can't do your shift tomorrow, what's going on?” The employee replied honestly, “I broke my leg coming off my bike; I am in the hospital at the moment.”
The manager at first showed concern, “Sh* really sorry to hear that! When do you think you will be back?” But things took a strange turn when the employee said the doctor advised complete rest and later crutches. Instead of understanding the situation, the manager pushed for a return: “Ideally, I need you in for the Friday shift. Do you think you will make it? I can give you a chair.” Yes, that’s the actual message: “I can give you a chair.”

Even though the employee replied politely, saying, “If the doctor says it's all good, then yep, no worries,” the manager didn’t stop. They continued to guilt-trip the employee for being new and already needing time off. Fed up, the employee ended the conversation strongly with, “Then let me make it even easier for you... I quit.” The video has since gone viral, leaving netizens angry and disappointed at how some managers treat their staff.

The now-viral video was shared on Instagram by Ben Askins, who often talks about toxic workplace behaviour. The video shared a few hours ago received many similar incidents experienced by users. One user wrote, "I absolutely believe this is real.. worked in a call centre.. where a woman with a broken ankle came in (forced to) and they turned a metal waste paper bin for her to put her foot on.. she left after a few hours, the pain was so bad.. but they had forced her to come to work."
"I worked for a company that was pretty bad about letting people take off from work. One day, I noticed a large lump in my neck. My doctor said I needed a specialist, and they are only open during the day. My work would not let me off to see the doctor. Finally, after several months, I got a day off to see an ENT. He said surgery right away due to the size of the tumor nodule. Had surgery, was told it was in fact, thyroid cancer, and I would need radioactive iodine treatment. After three days in the hospital, I was released to go home and wait for the treatment. The day I was released, I got a call from HR, and she asked me what my intentions were. I said Ma’am, my intentions are to survive. And she said No, I’m asking when you are coming back to work. And I said I need to take care of myself. I’m not dying for you, and that was the end of that," a second user narrated his story.
"My husband tore his rotator cuff. He was scheduled for surgery and on pain pills. His boss still wanted him to come in, he couldn't even go to the bathroom by himself, mind you. He went in for about an hour before a district manager told him to go home; he shouldn't be there. Right after the surgery, they wanted him to come in.... yelled at me for calling in for him too. I had some choice words for them," added a third user. "I had a car accident and nearly lost a leg, the firm I worked for waited till I was back to give me a written warning for breaking my leg and having time off," added another user.
