It might be getting questionably hard for people to believe, but the fact remains unchanged that it's only today, July 12, that the grand wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant will finally take place. All in all, the seemingly never-ending gala festivities that began from March, were just pre-wedding functions- that’s how extravagantly the ‘royal’ union was celebrated.
Understandably, the wedding ended up earning the title of being one of the most expensive weddings in the world. After all, a wedding with guests like Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos, and performers like Rihanna and Justin Bieber, was bound to be labeled for such a tag.
However, despite the unbelievable expense, Anand and Radhika’s wedding is still not the most expensive wedding in India, or in the world. Or so it is to be believed based on the Guinness World Records. Yes, the Guinness World Record for the most expensive wedding is held by a 2004 wedding, which was also, unsurprisingly, a big fat Indian wedding; the wedding of Vanisha Mittal.
Vanisha, the daughter of ArcelorMittal Executive Chairman and billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, tied the holy knot with Amit Bhatia, chairperson of the Breedon Group, in 2004. The 6-day wedding reportedly took place in France and was attended by some of the most prominent personalities in the world. This wedding too, like the Ambani wedding, had a number of celebrity performers, only the bill was reportedly heavier; USD 55 million (Rs 240 crore).

Coming back to the Ambani wedding, the wedding will take place today at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre in the Bandra-Kurla Complex. The wedding events will go on till July 14. Anant is the youngest son of business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and philanthropist Nita Ambani, while Radhika is the daughter of businessman Viren Merchant and his wife Shaila Viren Merchant.
