In an incident that has put US aviation under the scanner, two commercial planes were about to collide midair near New York’s Syracuse Hancock International Airport, reportedly on July 08. Fortunately enough, the aircraft were able to avert the collision at the last minute, with allegedly only 700 to 1000 feet of distance between them. The flights in question reportedly had a total of 159 passengers, where American Airlines’ regional branch, PSA Airlines, reportedly had 75 passengers and four crew members, while the airline associated with Delta Connection, Endeavor Air, reportedly had 76 passengers and four crew members.
A video of the same was captured on the dash camera of a patrol car of the North Syracuse Police Department. The clip, for obvious reasons, went viral on social media. As soon as the incident came to light, an investigation was initiated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
As per an FAA official, the PSA Airlines 5511, which was coming from Washington, was instructed in a manner to avoid a possible runway collision. Meanwhile, the Endeavor Air 5421 was on its way to New York, which is when the flights were about to crash.
The video was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘CollinRugg’. The post was captioned, “The FAA has launched an investigation after two planes nearly collided at New York’s Syracuse Hancock International Airport.”

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Someone needs to be fired, immediately. 700ft apart at that speed is like threading a needle. Our transportation industry is a mess..!” a user said. “Maybe the industry still lacks enough diversity,” added a second person. “DEI Pilots or traffic controllers?” added a third person.
“So to avoid disaster on the runway air traffic control has them almost collide in mid-air,” wrote another. “The FAA runs on DEI. No one should have any faith in the FAA investigating anything when they’re the problem. This is terrifying,” commented a fifth user. “As I have pointed out before, they are hiring DEI air traffic controllers, and this just shows how that's going,” added another.
