A city that once was considered no less than heaven has now seemingly turned into a ‘hotspot’ for many facing ‘racism’ and ‘language imposition’- or so it seems based on countless instances that people shared about the time they lived in Karnataka’s Bengaluru. From auto drivers abusing and calling migrants 'beggars’ to landlords avoiding migrants as tenants, social media has been witnessing far too many cases that left the internet's blood boiling. Adding to the list, a woman recalled her own ordeal that she faced while working in the current IT Hub.

She opened up about the time when she was facing a power cut, for which she called Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM). However, the helper refused to talk saying that she must speak in Kannada only. She also recalled the issues and brawls she faced with auto drivers on a daily basis.

The post went viral in an instant and left people reacting. Most shared their own similar experiences, while the rest agreed with her. Some also sympathised with her, meanwhile, a few were against the post.

The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘shaaninani’. The post was captioned, “I was working in Bangalore for 1.5 years. Married in Punjab, I wore chooda for the entire 1 year as it is a part of my tradition. It was clearly evident I was from North India.”

“What a harassment it was to commute in auto from flat to office and back. The audacity of local auto drivers to strike up a conversation on why I was in Bangalore when I belonged to North if I was learning Kannada, asking if I liked anything apart from the weather, asking for more money as I was newly married, and pretending not to understand a word when I would talk in Hin/Eng. I had a very bad experience with the local crowd there,” the post further read. The post was shared two days ago and pulled 3M views from people.

Taking to the comment section, people share their take. “This regional/language racism is the killer of Idea of India,” a user said. “I feel better because I left Bengaluru in 2010 when I realised the toxicity in the air. Glad we are working closely with the respective team to set up IT business in tier 2 cities in north India,” added a second person.

“Well in the first place, no one forced you to go to Bengaluru or any other place. It was your choice. Yes, jingoism towards non-Kannadas tends to be high there, no harm in trying to adjust and learn a bit of local language,” said another.

“Almost Similar Experience. The only difference is I'm in Noida instead of Gurgaon. The place where I live in is so welcoming and almost feel near to Home. Bangalore sometimes you feel you are in a foreign land. Yes, the weather sucks here but not the environment!!” added another.
