Pakistan Viral Video: In a questionable incident that posed a million questions on women's safety and security in Pakistan, a crowd ended up harassing a woman in a restaurant, all because of a misunderstanding that later only proved aggressors’ ‘lack of knowledge’. The said woman was reportedly out with her husband for shopping, when a few people mistook her Kurti’s print and jumped to an entirely wrong conclusion. As per the crowd, the woman was wearing a Kurti with ‘Quran verses’ written on it, because of which the crowd mobbed her. However, it later turned out that the calligraphy on the Kurti was Arabic, which had nothing to do with the Quran.
The drama reached the level where the police had to intervene as they safely took the poor one into their custody. A video of a police officer, Gulbarg Lahore SDPO ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, handling the misunderstood crowd was shared on social media, which went viral in no time.
The video was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the user ‘nailainayat’. The post was captioned, “Woman in Lahore’s Ichra wearing a digital print shirt taken into police custody after a mob complained that the shirt had Quranic verses on it.”

Clarifying the matter, and also encouraging Naqvi’s bravery for facing and handling the misunderstood crowd, the Punjab Police shared the same video. The police also recommended her name for the Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal. “ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, the brave SDPO of Gulbarg Lahore, put her life in danger to rescue a woman from a violent crowd. For this heroic deed, the Punjab Police has recommended her name for the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal (QPM), the highest gallantry award for law enforcement in Pakistan,” the X post by the Punjab Police Official read.

The video went viral and began to receive all kinds of reactions. Most people chastised the mod for harassing a woman over a misunderstanding, while some even demanded strict actions against the crowd responsible for the entire incident. People also questioned if the crowd itself ever read the Quran, otherwise, the incident would have never taken place. The post was shared yesterday and pulled 314K likes from people.
A video of the authorities later clearing the matter was also shared on social media. “WHOAH! A Pakistani woman who was attacked for wearing clothes with Arabic text on them is being forced to apologise in police custody in front of the Islamists, who accused her of blasphemy,” the X handle read.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Well done to the police officer for rescuing the poor woman but this apology is demeaning. If the police have to resort to this to placate people, it is a sorry state of affairs,” a user said. “Lol so basically if you have “halwa” written on your clothes in Arabic constitute blasphemy,” said a second. “Not just forced to apologise, but even was forced to give proof of her religious belief!” said a third.
“PAKIS blame their Army for their problems. The reality is the Army derives its power from the Mullah ecosystem and its Friday Congregation. PAK can't fix its problems ever unless they fix the mu**ah ecosystem, even if politicians neutralise the Army,” added a fourth.
“Can someone confirm if the texts (that are written on the dress) were from the Quran? I am sure it's not. Anything written in Arabic can't be called blasphemy,” commented a fifth person.
“Shame on you Punjab Police, ASP ShehrBano shame on you!!! Why was she asked to apologise when it was proved that the script of their clothes had nothing to do with the Quran?” asked a sixth user.
