Bengaluru Woman Viral Video: What started as a regular ride turned into a shocking experience for Janhavi Kshatriyas, a model and fashion designer from Bengaluru, when she found herself dealing with an uncomfortable and suspicious auto-rickshaw driver from Rapido. During the ride, Janhavi noticed the driver constantly staring at her through the rearview mirror. The repeated, creepy glances made her feel uneasy. Trusting her instincts, she quickly messaged her friend on Snapchat, telling them her phone battery was about to die.
To avoid any issues later, she asked the driver if she could pay in advance. He agreed, but the ride didn’t stay smooth for long. When she mentioned her phone’s low battery, the driver offered to charge it and took it from her. “I even requested the driver to let me pay before my phone died, which he allowed. Later, he offered to charge my phone and took it in his hand, which I now regret,” Janhavi shared in her post. But what happened next left her completely stunned. She had briefly stepped out to buy coffee powder from a shop. When she returned, she was shocked to see the driver trying to unzip her handbag. “He was caught red-handed. My money was stuck in the zip, and he was struggling to pull it out. He didn’t realise I was standing right behind him,” she wrote.
When she confronted him, he fumbled with excuses. First, he claimed he was trying to keep the bag safe and then, bizarrely, he tried to shift the blame to a random girl nearby., "When I confronted him, he nervously claimed he was “trying to move the bag behind to keep it safe” and even tried to blame a random girl nearby for trying to steal it – despite the fact that I saw him with my own eyes. I even asked the girl to confirm and explained everything to her in public," she recalled. The clip quickly went viral, triggering reactions across social media. She ended her post with a strong message: “This is not just about money. This is about trust, safety, and dignity. I shudder to think what could have happened if I hadn’t returned in time.”
In response to the viral video, Rapido said: “Hi Janhavi, we sincerely apologise on behalf of the captain. This is not the kind of experience we aim to provide. We take customer safety seriously and follow a zero-tolerance policy for such behaviour. Please allow us time to investigate.”

The video, after being shared, received 2.2 million views and significant likes and comments from social media users. One user wrote, "I hope now no one wants to know the other side of the story now …. If this girl was speaking in Hindi, the entire comment will be filled with ‘what's the whole story’ … Crime doesn't see language or culture, crime is crime." "Madam, I'm also an auto driver. You've done a very good job, any problems u can contact us will support no problem," a second user added."

"I think this is one of the best videos, which appropriately addressed a serious issue," added a third user. "This is the reason why auto drivers want to ban Rapido bike taxi, and they want customers to come in an auto, and they do such nonsense things," a fourth user added. "It’s honestly infuriating how @Rapidoapp, @Uber_India, or @Olacabs respond to every concern with the same templated, robotic message. No matter how serious the issue is, be it safety, overcharging, or driver misconduct, they just copy-paste a generic apology and disappear. There's never a follow-up. No resolution. No accountability," a fifth user added.
