In a shocking incident, the pilot of a flight travelling from Miami to Chile collpased in the bathroom of the aircraft, resulting in an emergency landing. The pilot was taken for emergency treatment after the flight landed to a diverted location but was declared dead by the first-responders. The plane scheduled to land at the Santiago airport but was diverted to Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport.

Addressing the sad incident, the airline issued a statement on the matter and wrote, “LATAM Airlines Group reports that flight LA505 yesterday, which was on the Miami-Santiago route, had to land at the Tocumen International Airport in Panama due to a medical emergency for one of the three members of the command crew. When the plane landed, emergency services provided life-saving help, but the pilot sadly passed away.”

The incident took place on August 14 onboard the LATAM Airlines flight that was travelling from Florida to Santiago. The flight reportedly took off at 10.11 PM from Miami. The airplane with 271 passengers also had a relief captain and first officer onboard the plane.

Captain Ivan Andaur, the 56-year-old pilot, started feeling uneasy three hours into the flight, according to a report by the Independent. Andaur received emergency treatment onboard the flight after he collapsed but was eventually declared dead after the flight was diverted to Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport.

The airline also expressed its grief over the demise of the veteran pilot. “We are deeply moved by what has happened, and we extend our sincere condolences to the family of our employee. We are deeply grateful for his 25-year career and his valuable contribution, which was always distinguished by his dedication, Professionalism, and dedication. During the flight, all the necessary safety protocols were carried out to safeguard the life of the affected pilot,” the statement read.
