In a protest that turned ugly, the protesters ended up beating up a Sub Inspector in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba on October 30. The said inspector reached the protest site to reportedly clear the traffic jam after receiving reports about 'road blockage'. Meanwhile, the protest was being held by the family members of a 13-year-old boy who was run over by a bus, accourding to the reportes. With the aim to get justice and compensation, the family of the young victim reportedly took his body to the streets during the protest. But the scene escalated rather quickly when the protesters began to thrash the Sub Inspector with sticks when he approached the group. A video of the same was then shared on social media, which went viral.

Later, the police reportedly arrested 5 accused in the incident, but while taking them to the station, two arrested snatched the police rifle and fired on the uniformed personnel. The police also fired in retaliation. Addressing the matter, Mahoba SP Aparna Gupta later explained the entire incident and informed about the arrests. The injured men during the firing were then hospitalised, while an investigation is underway over the matter.

The video was shared on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) by the handle. The post was captioned, “What does the angry mob show when the police officer was kicked and punched? Will you encounter the crowd? Location: Mahoba, UP.”

Soon after the incident, a video of the victims hospitalised was also shared by the news agency ANI.

The video went viral and raised serious concerns by many over the UP law and order situation. Most chastised the mob for their actions and expressed their concerns for the uniformed man for the violence against him. The post was shared today and gained 184K views from people.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “What is this matter Surya Pratap ji?” a user asked. “Nothing can be done about this, haters want people like this who kill people... However, Mahoba will not be in UP because there is Ram Rajya in UP,” said another. “Police is your friend, not your enemy, this thing is absolutely wrong,” commented a third netizen. “Things are happening differently in Uttar Pradesh,” said a fourth. “This is just ruthless, hope the man is okay,” added a fifth.
