Mumbai Resident Viral Reddit Post: In a city known for its hustle and glamour, one Mumbai resident has had enough of the mess. Living in the Behraum Baug area of Oshiwara, he took to Reddit to share disturbing photos of garbage lying unattended on the roads, and the post quickly caught attention. "Piles of plastic, food waste, construction debris, you just name it. It’s not just an eyesore anymore, it’s a serious health hazard, especially with the monsoon around the corner,” the user warned, raising concerns about diseases, mosquitoes, and rats.

But the post wasn’t just a complaint, it was a wake-up call. The resident asked some tough questions: “Is the richest municipal corporation of India even aware of what’s going on? Is anyone inspecting these areas? Are there no dustbins, or is this just sheer apathy? It is 2025, and till when are we planning to struggle with the basics of roads and a proper waste management system?" Interestingly, the user didn’t just blame the authorities. He also pointed fingers at local residents for being careless. “Is it so hard to carry garbage a little further to a bin or wait for collection services?” he asked.

The post ended with a genuine appeal: “This isn’t a rant for the sake of complaining. I need to know if there is a proper grievance portal to get this issue solved.” With the post going viral, it’s clear that Mumbaikars are ready to talk and act when it comes to the city’s growing garbage problem.

This is what our roads have come to—piles of garbage, zero accountability.

The post, after being shared a few hours ago, garnered many comments from Reddit users. One user wrote, "Write a complaint to the BMC on Twitter. Call them if you can. We've had similar problems in our area, and they're pretty good at cleaning up as quickly as they can. BMC also has a guy around the spot for a few days where people threw their trash, but after that, it was all the same. I doubt the BMC can do anything here. It's the people. They have a complete disregard for their surroundings."

"Saw your post at the exact moment I was passing through this specific pile of garbage, talk about timing," a second user added. "I have been seeing this for the past 33 years. The cocktail of not providing a garbage collection for the majority of the people who live in Slums, and topped with general disregard for cleanliness amongst Indians. Also, the builders who illegally throw their debris and then start the garbage mound," added a third user.

"I'm very curious as to why BMC can't impose heavy fines? It's a tried and tested method globally in major cities, more revenue to BMC?! It's very weird," a fourth user wrote. "In most countries, they'll go through the trash, find identifying information such as unshredded letters or bills, and then fine the culprits - Even if you hired a third-party company to dispose of your trash for you," added a fifth user. "Oh, haven't you seen the BMC ad for the last 10 years -- 'your garbage is your responsibility,'" added another user.
