Robot Android Muhammad Harasses Reporter: Despite it being one of the most grave crimes, harassment against women has unfortunately become way too common. So much so, that people were caught eve-teasing women even on live television. In fact, social media’s endless content on TV anchors and reporters getting casually harassed is proof of the above. However, expecting the same kind of behaviour from a robot is surely a shock for many. Saudi Arabia recently introduced their first male robot, Android Muhammad, and believe it or not, the machine has already reeled in a controversy over ‘harassing’ a woman.

The robot was introduced at an event. A video of the same was shared online, where the machine was standing right beside a TV reporter, Rawiya Al-Qasimi. What made the incident viral was that the robot was seen moving its hands, based on how it was programmed, but the movement at the time ended up turning into a controversy.

The hand movements ‘looked’ a lot like harassment, which was also evident by the reporter’s uncomfortable expressions. Many claimed that the incident was a result of the ‘programmed hand movements’, which led to the ‘accidental touch’. However, a majority concluded that the robot ‘harassed’ the woman.

The video was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the user ‘TansuYegen’. The post was captioned, “Saudi Robots were announced today.”

Taking to the internet, people shared their take. “That’s the natural movement of his hands, but she was pretty close to him, so that’s why she was touched,” a user said. “Who programmed this robot?” added a second. “So they’re perverts?!!!” said a third person. “What are these Saudi Robots capable of?” joked the next. “Almost groped the presenter. Eery!” added next.

“The robot programmed in this way, she stood at the wrong spot,” said another. “Is the robot indulging in eve teasing?” asked another. “That is still harassment, on the part of whoever programs that robot or with whoever controls it,” added another.
