Reddit Viral Post: A Reddit post by a software professional has become the latest talk of the tech community, all thanks to his surprising back-to-back salary hikes in just a few months. His story has not only impressed the internet but also sparked curiosity about how he managed it. The post, titled “received a hike within 4 months of joining a new company,” quickly went viral on the platform. Sharing his experience, the techie wrote, “YOE: 7.2. CTC: 32 LPA after the hike. Was 31 LPA before. I joined my current company around 4 months back. It is a mid-sized PBC and is fully remote. It is my first product-based company and when I joined, I received like a 100% hike. They in fact offered me more than I asked for.”
He explained that he was already thrilled with the offer when he joined, but what followed came as an even bigger surprise. “It is appraisal time at the company right now and my manager suddenly reached out and informed me I will be receiving a hike despite not being officially eligible. I do not know if it is a market correction or what (in this economy?) but hey, I am not going to question it. I am finally feeling a bit satisfied in my career after all these years of working at SBCs,” he added.
His unexpected success has inspired many in the online tech community, proving that sometimes the right company and timing can truly turn one’s career around.

The post received many reactions from Reddit users. "Most decent big companies do a round of appraisals every quarter so that people who join like 5 months before the cycle don't have to wait for a year and a half for the hike," a user wrote. "I have worked for a company like this. I joined the company already with a decent hike and then in 5 months they gave me a 16% hike; it was crazy to imagine," a second user wrote.
"In my company, they reduced headcount in December 2023 by 30% and then in Jun 2024, they hiked our salary by 30 %. Go figure," wrote a third user. "Not uncommon. Good startups do that often. We give a hike every 3/4 months. But our work culture is quite hard as well," added a fourth user.
