Viral Video: From finding insects stuck to their food to spotting cockroaches taking seats near their berth, an average Indian Railways’ passenger has been witnessing quite a few incidents on the train that are putting the Government to shame. Joining the bandwagon, another such matter came to light after a man, a fan of train journeys, found something shocking and concerning during his curious visit to some of the train coaches. The incident took place with Mangirish Tendulkar, who was travelling on a train on October 15. As his train was delayed due to a reschedule, the man was quick to grab the opportunity to take a visit to the train’s engine. However, in the middle of his tour, he came across the train’s pantry car and witnessed something horrible. The man saw some rats eating the food prepared for the passengers. Rushing into action, he took the matter to the officials, who unfortunately sided the matter with light responses. After a while, the man took the matter in his own hands and shared the same with the internet community, which soon made the video and the incident go viral. 

The video was shared on the traveller’s Instagram handle. The caption began with, “This is such a rude shock for me as a railfan and as a train traveler. The scene unfolds as I was travelling with my family in 11099 LTT MAO express dated 15/10/2023 which was rescheduled from its original timings from 1:45 midnight to 3:30,” and went on to describe the rest of the incident which left not only him, but the netizens also speechless over the Railways’ carelessness.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Also we could find more number of cockroaches and files crawling near the seats and do railways really care for the health of passengers or have they ignored people travelling in sleeper class,” a user said. “This is really shocking and an eye-opener for us passengers,” said a second person. “Let the ministry of Vande Bharat know reality,” added a third person. “It’s important to give a reality check to the govt. good job done,” said another.

After the video was shared on Instagram, the same was posted on social media site X (formerly Twitter) by the handle ‘mumbaimatterz’. The post read, “Do Watch... To provide hygienic & tasty food to passengers & to monitor Quality Control #IndianRailways has appointed Food Tasters inside Pantry Cars. Pilot project inside Pantry Car of 11009 LTT Madgaon Express on 14th Oct 2023.” As soon as the X post started gaining more attention, the IRCTC jumped into action and assured of consequences against the management. Replying to the X post, IRCTC said, “The matter is viewed seriously and suitable action has been taken. Pantry Car Staff have been sensitised to ensure hygiene and cleanliness in the pantry car. The concerned have been suitably advised to ensure effective pest and rodent control measures which is being ensured.”
