Bengaluru Engineer Death: Following the tragic death of a 34-year-old Bengaluru-based engineer Atul Subhash, the hashtag #JusticeForAtulSubhash started trending on social media and is currently the number one trend in the country. Atul, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, died by suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Bengaluru. As calls for justice grow louder, many individuals have come forward to share their own harrowing experiences. Netizens have blamed "the system" for his death, with many saying it is a "crime to be a man in India" while demanding justice for him.
Journalist and men’s rights activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj has shared a slew of distressing messages from her inbox, highlighting the many pleas for help she has received.
‘I am getting suicidal’: Man After Wife Files Divorce And Dowry Case
One man, whose wife filed a dowry case against him, reached out to Bhardwaj in distress.
He wrote, “Next, I am in that situation, ma’am. My wife filed divorce and dowry case separately."
He added, “When I filed AB for a dowry case, the judge did not listen to my words. She is asking to give the house to my wife which was my parents’ house, which is their only property and is not in my name."
The man also expressed how influential his wife’s family was: “Even I am getting suicidal thoughts nowadays. Don’t know when and where I am going to end."
‘I Don’t Want To Be Next Atul’: 34-Year-Old Rajasthan Engineer
A 34-year-old brought up similarities between his and Subhash’s case. “I am also 34, married in 2019. In these 5 years, she has lived only for 67 days with us that too in parts. I am a BTech and working in Rajasthan. She is PhD… trying for extortion of money from me."
“I don’t want to be next Atul. I will fight till the end," he expressed.
The man went on to share his ordeal: “Last year, I filed section 9, after which she filed 498. This year, I filed for divorce, and after that she filed for DV, demanding 60,000 per month. Last year, I got an ex parte decree in section 9."
“Seeing losing ground in the divorce case, she has now filed for a transfer petition of a divorce case. As per court order, I am even paying for her travel to Rajasthan to attend court dates, I will be going to Supreme Court now…."

‘I Am One Of Those Many Atul Subhash’
Another man who reached out to the activist shared his own struggles, stating he is one of many like Atul Subhash. “Not to seek attention or anything, nor do I except anything from anyone anymore. Just wanted to remind you that I am one of those many Atul Subhash out there who would have thought to commit suicide at one stage of their legal terror-stricken days!"
He further expressed, “Some cannot [commit suicide] due to old age parents responsibility, some do, however!"
‘Alimony Like Atul Subhash’
Another man shared a similar experience, revealing that his wife also demanded a large sum in alimony. He wrote, “Same story here, asking for 2 crore alimony like Atul Subhash."
He added, “She has even backed out of a compromise and is now demanding more by filing another FIR."
‘I’m Feeling Deeply Disturbed’
“I don’t want to say but Atul’s step really inspires me because as a man you will not find justice in this country," expressed yet another man who is a victim of false cases, before adding, “I’m feeling deeply disturbed today after watching Atul’s video. I, too, am a victim of false accusations and FIRs filed by my wife against me, my family, and my friends. I’ve been battling these baseless cases while dealing with her demand for 735 lakh as alimony."
He further said that he is struggling to see a way forward: “I work night shifts, which adds to the mental and physical exhaustion. For the past year, l’ve been consumed by similar thoughts-fighting cases, attending mediation sessions, paying bribes, and applying for bail. It’s overwhelming, and I’m struggling to see a way forward."
‘Wife filed 9 cases against me’
Yet another man shared that he has attended court hearings for 2.5 years, dealing with nine different cases filed by his wife after he caught her red-handed in an extramarital affair twice. “For 2.5 years, I had to keep attending court for 9 different cases," he said.
He added, “It felt like my life was stuck. I used to curse my luck and wonder why this was happening to me when all my friends were happy, settling down, and having kids. Meanwhile, I was going through endless court dates and being looked at with sympathy or mockery by people around me."
An FIR has been filed against 4 people. The FIR based on a complaint by Atul's brother Bikas Kumar was lodged at the Marathahalli police station in Bengaluru. The FIR has been filed under section 108 (abetment of suicide) and section 3 (5) (establishes joint criminal liability when two or more people act with a common intention) of the BNS. The FIR is filed against the techie's wife Nikita Singhania, his mother-in-law Nisha Singhania, wife's brother Anurag Singhania and his wife's uncle Sushil Singhania.
