Viral Video: Mob thrashing, which is also one of the most severe crimes around the world, is turning into an ‘everyday’ justice in India. Far too many instances of people getting thrashed for all kinds of crimes have been coming forward in the last few years, which has only increased the issue of normalising such violence. Adding to the list, another incident was shared on the internet, where a man was tied with ropes and beaten up by the crowd allegedly for stealing some Turiya (ridge gourd) from a farm in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly. A video of the same was shared, which went viral and left people angry as the violence was a ‘bit too much’ for the netizens.

As per the post, an FIR was later registered against the farm owners and the man too, for stealing. As per the police, the incident unfolded on August 11. The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘ShahnawazAns72’. The video was shared yesterday and pulled many likes.

As the video went viral, the UP Police also responded to the matter. “Bite of the Area Officer, Baheri, Bareilly, regarding the legal action being taken at Police Station Baheri, Bareilly in the case of viral video related to assault on a person under the area of Police Station Baheri, Bareilly.#UPPolice,” the response read.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “This is a fanatic mentality. Who beats someone so much for stealing vegetables from the fields? Agreed that he had made a mistake, but there is another side to it that he might have stolen it only to eat, probably not to sell it! In the village, no one ever dies so much over such a small matter!! It's sad!” a user said.

“To what extent have people fallen? Is it right for someone to die in such a horrible way for a Ridge gourd? Should legal action be taken against them?” added a second person. “We are so immersed in hatred that the value of a human being has become cheaper than 2 kg of gourd,” commented a third person.
