Viral Video: Public thrashing has become way too common in India from the past few years. The internet is full of videos where people, even when they were innocent, ended up being on the receiving end of such uncalled-for violence by the public. Adding to the list, another video came forward, where two pickpockets were caught stealing mobile phones on a DTC bus. As soon as passengers released what the men were doing, a brutal reaction erupted as they began to thrash the pickpockets. A video of the same was shared online and went viral.
The date of the incident could not be confirmed, regardless, it divided people as some sided with the public and the others found the thrashing against the law.
The video was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘Arhant Shelby’. The video was reshared on the handle ‘Ghar ke kalesh’, with the caption, “Kalesh inside DTC bus over the guys who were getting beaten by the public was got Caught Stealing mobile phone.”

The video, soon after getting shared, went viral on social media. Most people found the public’s reaction ‘justified’, while the rest chastised passengers for taking ‘law’ into their own hands. Many also recalled theft incidents that they went through because of such pickpockets. The video was shared today and pulled 36K views from people.

Taking to the comment box, people shared their take. “City-based pickpocket beaten. It is very true, pickpockets have created terror, brother. Meaning, as soon as you get the phone, watch, money, anything you get your hands on, it will be clean,” a user said. “In a world where justice is often sought hastily, we must remember the power of balance and restraint. While theft is wrong, we should aim for fair consequences that do not escalate into violence. Let's strive for a society where accountability is paired with empathy,” added a second person.
“Anyone who gets caught stealing should be treated like this only,” commented a third person. “Give him to the police guys. Don’t take law in your hand,” added a fourth person. “Real, I'm the guy who is being beaten merely for mobile phones,” joked a fifth user. “He also has a knife. This black-shirt man is caught every week,” added a sixth person.
