The video quickly went viral, with many netizens reacting with witty comments. Some jokingly called it a “bonus” of loving whiskey, while others were simply fascinated by the unexpected reaction. A viral video shared on the social media platform Instagram by the user insidehistory has captured the attention of millions. The post was captioned, "If a single drop of whiskey is placed onto millions of bacteria, the high alcohol content, typically around 40% ethanol, can have a significant antimicrobial effect. Ethanol works by breaking down bacterial cell membranes and denaturing proteins, which usually leads to cell death."
The caption further explained, "Therefore, for many common, non-resistant bacteria such as E. coli, the exposure would likely be lethal or severely damaging. However, the outcome also depends on the type of bacteria and the environment they are in. Some bacteria, like spore-forming species, can resist harsh conditions and may survive the exposure. Additionally, if the whiskey is dropped into a liquid or nutrient-rich environment, it may become diluted, weakening its antibacterial power. In contrast, direct application to bacteria on a dry surface would be more effective due to higher concentration contact."
The video, shared just a day ago, has already received an impressive 2.3 million views. Users quickly flooded the comment section, celebrating what many jokingly saw as yet another reason to enjoy whiskey. One user wrote, "Whenever I feel sick, I just do a shot of Fireball to clean the sinuses .. works every time. Whiskey/honey/lemon shot too." Another added, "Millions of reasons to drink whiskey." A third chimed in, "Also, the reason alcohol doesn't mix with gym gains. Kills beneficial bacteria in the gut. Wet blanket on your metabolism." Another user joked, "So you’re saying the sober living house that just kicked me out for not staying clean was wrong?"
