It’s unclear when exactly the definition of a pure bond like ‘best friends’ was reduced to tags like ‘male best friend’ or ‘female best friend’, as until just a few years ago- best friends were simply best friends. Hanging out with them, being their ‘partner in crime’, gossiping, unloading emotions and endless inside jokes were all that used to come to mind when the term ‘best friend’ was mentioned. However, after quite a few years, ‘best friends’ started becoming something that instead left many feeling insecure. Displaying the same in a much lighter and comedic manner, a video was shared where a group was seen protesting against ‘male best friends’ and ‘talking stage’ in Mumbai. The group had placards with a few cliche phrases that they displayed while protesting.
The video was quick to go viral as it pulled all kinds of reactions. Most called the entire thing hilarious and scripted, while the rest seemed upset over ‘glorifying’ such insecurities. Many also supported the protest.
The protesters also protested against the ‘talking stage’, which was mostly supported by people. For those unaware, ‘talking stage’ is basically a slang used to describe a stage between a potential couple, where they stick to talking and delay getting committed.
The Mumi video was shared in X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘Ghar ke kalesh’. The post read, “Protest against male best friend and talking stage in Mumbai.” The video was shared yesterday and pulled 140K views from people.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “L generation,” a user said. “I agree with the talking stage point, no issue with best friends” added a second person. “I thought they were doing reels. But, really,” added a third user. “The slogans are on point,” commented a fourth netizen.
“Low budget Promotion tactics,” added a fifth user. “Normalise having male best friends,” added another. “Only in Mumbai! Love how our friendships spark protests. Can’t wait to hear the stories from this one!” added another. “There is a new protest in the market. When will this be shown in crime shows,” added another. “What is this?” added another.
