Chandrika Dixit, more popular by the name the ‘Vada Pao girl’, is currently one of the names that almost everyone who uses the internet knows. Wondering the reason behind such popularity? Well, the answer is not exactly a straight one. Confused? Allow us to elaborate. But first-who is Vada Pao girl?

Who Is Vada Pao Girl?

The Vada Pao girl, or Delhi’s Chandrika Dixit, is not from Delhi but is reportedly from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, and her selling point- the roadside snack Vada Pao- is a rather popular Maharashtran dish. However, despite the ‘multistate origin’, the name has become all about Delhi, because her popular food stall, Mumbai ka famous Vada Pao, itself is in the national capital. That was kind of obvious.

Dixit sells Vada Paos at a roadside food stall. Her stall, as per reports, stands in Pritampura’s Sainik Vihar area, near the Keshav Mahavidyalaya College of Delhi University. But that is not the location from where she began her venture, as before Sainik Vihar, Dixit used to sell Vada Paos at a different location. And in some ways, the older location is what also played a major role in her fame. ‘How’, you ask? Let’s take a look at that as well.

 

Vada Pao Girl’s Popularity And Controversy Explained:

The entire thing began with Dixit's stall coming face to face with the Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), who reportedly wanted her to remove her stall. Due to this, the seller who was already somewhat popular because of her Vada Paos, came to further attention on social media after she began to retaliate and share her side of the story on the internet. She, in fact, became more like an ‘inspiration’ for many as she gained heavy support from countless people.

Eventually, the location of the stall was changed, but the fame kept coming in. Not only her famous snacks and issues with the authorities, but several questionable videos of Dixit also played a role in her popularity and somewhat controversial image.

Currently, she is popular, but her fame is a result of seemingly a mixed reaction from people. Some love her as long queues are generally seen in front of her food stall, but then there are also some people who usually chastise her on social media for her behaviour. As a fuel to fire on the latter issue, Dixit was reportedly arrested by the Delhi Police recently, after she attempted to hold a Bhandara on her son’s birthday.

Dixit, as per The Sports Grail, has also worked at Haldiram’s as a host for four years before venturing into Vada Pao business. It was reportedly her son’s sudden deteriorating health due to dengue, which compelled her to leave her job and start the business. In the future, the roadside seller wants to own a 5-star hotel or a dhaba, so that she can continue serving people in her own ways.
