No one expected a shocking family incident to expose a well-known teacher online, but that’s exactly what happened when a disturbing video of Cottage Hill Christian Academy teacher Randi Nicole Staples suddenly appeared on the internet. The clip, which briefly showed up on her own Facebook page before disappearing, stunned viewers with its intensity.

In the video, Staples can be seen striking her 12-year-old son again and again, 22 times in just 14 seconds, using what looked like a belt or strap. The recording also showed her pulling the child up by his hair and shouting obscenities at him. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed she is the boy’s mother.

This shocking moment was captured not by a stranger, but by another one of her children. That sibling sent the clip to an older brother or sister, who then shared it on social media, causing the video to spread quickly and spark outrage across the community.

Watch The Viral Video:

Sheriff Paul Burch didn’t hold back after watching the footage. Calling it repulsive, he added, “People are entitled to discipline their children how they choose, but that went well beyond discipline. It was abuse… sickening to see somebody repeatedly strike their child, then grab them by the hair and yell and curse at them.”

Soon after officials reviewed the clip, Staples was arrested and taken to Mobile Metro Jail. She now faces a felony charge of 'willful abuse of a minor,' and according to Sheriff Burch, there was 'never any question' she would be taken into custody. All of her children have since been moved to a family member for safety.

Her workplace quickly responded too. Cottage Hill Christian Academy ended her employment, saying, “An arrest was made, and Cottage Hill Christian Academy terminated her employment in accordance with institutional policy.” This incident shocked many people who knew Staples as a respected educator. The 44-year-old taught 2nd grade and was even celebrated as the school’s Teacher of the Year in May.

Social Media Reactions:

"Those kids need to be removed permanently from that evil bish," a user wrote. "Wonder how many times the son that posted it got….yikes. BTW, I have no problem disciplining a child, but 20 times was excessive. And if it happens often, that is no good," a second user wrote. "Ppl talking abt the belt like we gonna ignore her grabbing a handful of his hair and pulling him off the couch by his head????? This is all entirely too far," wrote a third user.
