Viral Reddit Post: It started with a simple Reddit post but soon turned into a mirror reflecting how toxic some Indian workplaces can be. The post, titled “What should I do with this kind of Manager?”, has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, exposing how empathy often disappears behind office desks and designations. The post shares the painful story of an employee struggling with a serious health issue who faced not care, but cruelty from his manager. Battling extreme discomfort due to what he suspected to be hemorrhoids or fissures, the employee informed his branch manager that he couldn’t come to work and even attached a doctor’s note and prescription for proof.
He messaged, “I am unable to sit or stand for a long time… please provide me medical leave for today.” When no reply came, he followed up again, explaining that his condition was “not manageable.” But instead of concern, he got scolded. His manager snapped, “Who Tought You Descipline?” and added, “Look at the time when you are asking for leave. It will be a loss of pay for both the days.”
Despite being in pain, the employee remained polite and apologised, saying, “Please understand my situation, sir, I am asking for medical reasons… I am sorry for not informing you about my inability to come to the office because of my health ailments.”
However, things got worse when the manager accused him of running away from responsibilities, replying, “Who will do you business? The more you run away from your responsibility and commitment the more problem. You didn’t stand by your commitment as far as the first 10 days are concerned.” Still keeping calm, the employee assured, “I will do it, sir. I’m not running away from my commitments. I will cover up after I return to the office.”

The screenshots of this chat quickly spread across Reddit, with users slamming the manager’s behaviour and the lack of basic empathy in corporate spaces. Many questioned how such people were promoted to leadership positions, while others couldn’t help but notice and laugh at the manager’s broken English.
"Texts 'wHo tOuGhT YoU dEcIpLinE?' and he's a branch manager. Wow, I'm at a loss for words," a user wrote. "Attach all the proofs and submit them to HR. Get a medical certificate from the doctor if required. Be professional and courteous in all your communications and as soon as you get a bit better, get a new job with a promotion and increment and ask your manager to touch grass," a second user wrote.
"Just say I am on sick leave today and sleep, man. What is this culture of WhatsApp? Send an official email and turn off phone," wrote a third user. "You can publicly call out this man and shame him. At least when you resign, you can mention his name in your resignation letter. Just posting chat here will do you no good," added a fourth user.
