Social media is full of upsetting instances that people experienced with popular food delivery apps like Zomato and Swiggy. From the ‘victims’ experiencing a rough interaction with the delivery agents to an overly late online delivery, there are quite a few incidents that landed such apps in trouble. However, when a woman found a dead cockroach in her food that she ordered from Zomato, people had a very simple reason for defending the delivery app; it was the restaurant’s responsibility, rather than Zomato’s.
Taking to the internet, the said woman shared a picture of her ‘Japanese Miso Chicken Ramen’, that she ordered from a restaurant called ‘Auntie Fug's’, as per the post. But more than the restaurant, the woman blamed Zomato and called the incident a ‘ZomatoNightmare’. As soon as the post went viral, netizens were quick to point out the obvious mistake that was committed by the restaurant and not Zomato.
The image was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘sonai4u’. The post was captioned, “Just had a horrific experience ordering from @Zomato. Ordered Japanese miso ramen chicken from Auntie Fug's and found a cockroach in my meal! Absolutely unacceptable and disgusting Seriously disappointed with the quality control here. @Zomato is beyond gross.#ZomatoNightmare.”

As the post went viral, it also came to the notice of the food delivery app. “Hi there, we are sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident. We want to help turn this experience around. Please allow us some time to look into it, we'll get back to you ASAP,” the response read.
The post, soon after getting started, went viral on social media. Most people defended Zomato, while the rest recalled their own ‘disastrous experiences’ with the same restaurant. Some also cracked jokes on the same. The post was shared on February 14 and received thousands of views from people.
Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “How is Zomato to blame for this? It should be the restaurant to blame…did Zomato make the food?” a user said. “I think this e orders on Zomato, Swiggi or Ola, they give customer worst service as they do not have a check who is preparing the food or who is giving a Taxi, the quality of the restaurant or kitchen or a car has to be checked by some ISO company than only they should be taken,” said a second person.
“Sonai, Zomato is not to blame here. You should be blaming the restaurant. Zomato is an aggregator and delivery service. They don't cook food. Please get it right,” commented a third. “Miso ramen chicken has cockroaches as one of the key ingredients. Zomato will give you a 30 Rs coupon,” commented a fourth.
“Ordered Auntie Fug's based on Zomato's 4-star rating—disappointed. Tasteless Thukpa, no chicken in Fried Rice. Star ratings seem unreliable,” recalled another user. “It's not the fault of Zomato. They are just delivery services. They did nothing wrong. It is the fault of that Japanese restaurant,” joined sixth.
