Viral Reddit Post: Not every post on social media is meant to go viral, but when it hits a nerve, it spreads fast. That’s exactly what happened when a Reddit user poured out their feelings about living in India. In their words: “Sometimes I genuinely hate being an Indian because this country is a mix of filth, chaos, and hypocrisy.” The post didn’t hold back. The user asked why being proud of the nation feels difficult when women’s safety, clean roads, and proper services are still rare. “Proud to be Indian? Look around—rape, filth, corruption, and apathy,” the post read.
Their frustration came from the everyday problems we’ve all seen: people spitting on the road, breaking traffic rules, and littering in public. The user also talked about deep issues like religious fights, caste hate, and the growing numbness to crimes.
The user was especially upset that even after paying so many taxes, income tax, GST, and tolls, citizens still deal with potholes, garbage everywhere, and waterlogged streets every time it rains. The post ended with a harsh but honest reality check: “Clean streets, women’s safety, working infrastructure, and simple respect from one person to another — why do these things feel like luxuries in India?”
The post, after being shared, received many comments from Reddit users. "Calm down, bro ..these things are everywhere, even in the most developed countries, u will find problems. Well, India is too populated, so are problems are obviously more, and add the lack of education and civic sense, so it is a problematic country, ofc but problems are always gonna be there, and every country should be working towards solving these problems and grow for the better," a user wrote.
"I get your point, but that ‘these problems exist everywhere’ mindset is exactly why nothing changes here. Developed countries have problems too, but the difference is they actively fix them and hold people accountable, instead of just normalizing chaos," a second user wrote.
"What are you doing to change all these things? If you don't feel proud and aren't contributing towards the positivity, then you might as well find a place that suits you, which you can be proud of," added another user. "Everyone is demanding better just like you are, but no one is getting united and actually pressuring your area's administration to do something about it," wrote another user.
