World's Most Expensive Pen: Why is anything so costly? The item may be very old, very rare, very significant, or all of the above, depending on some variables. Some pens are similar to paintings in the eyes of collectors; they are not only beautiful and expertly made but also hold a status symbol. One such pen is the Fulgor Nocturnus, which was introduced by the Florentine company Tibaldi. Recently, this exquisite writing instrument brought an incredible $8 million at a Shanghai charity auction.

Fulgor Nocturnus Pen

The Latin term Fulgor Nocturnus means 'night glow,' which is an apt description for this remarkable fountain pen adorned with black diamonds and rubies. Yes, you read that right.

With a total of 945 black diamonds and 123 rubies, the Fulgor Nocturnus has plenty of glitter. It's difficult to determine if this is a pen or a beautiful piece of jewellery.

The Fulgor Nocturnus pen features an 18-carat gold nib for longevity and 16 clips above the little button on the cap. Since there is only one pen in the world, it is a true collector's item in every way.

This pen is special because it follows the divine Phi ratio to the letter; when the cap and barrel are closed, they precisely match the Phi ratio of 1.618. This pen is incredibly unusual because there are no duplicates.

This pen is still the most costly one ever sold and is truly a work of art. Some might argue that the most costly items in the world are breathable air, water and other natural resources. But, oh well...
