Viral Video: A woman shared a heartfelt video online saying she didn’t get a job because of her skin colour. She said this reminded her of the unfair treatment she has faced since childhood for having dark skin. After her video went viral, people on the internet had mixed reactions—some supported her, while others questioned the situation.
In the viral video, she explained what happened, "Kal main ek interview ke liye gayi thi. Aaj unhone mujhe khud se bulaya tha mujhse baat karne ke liye, ki what the job profile is all about. I applied for a student counsellor position. Indeed, par jo bhi job profile mereko mili, I applied for everything. Then, there was this guy who selected me, and then there was this lady who was explaining everything—what the job is, how to do it, and what was expected. Kaafi der tak unhone dekha ki main kaise kaam kar rahi hoon. After a while, they called me into the cabin, and the lady started saying, 'I don’t think you are apt for this job.' "
She adds that they made comments about her appearance and said, "We don’t like the way you dress, and you are not welcoming enough. Mujhe uss time samajh nahi aaya how to react to all this. Then she said, 'Your face lacks the glow we are looking for. Aapke chehre mein aur aapke shakal mein woh baat nahi hai jo humein chahiye iss job ke liye.' "
The woman explains that although they claimed it wasn’t about skin colour but about “glow,” it still hurt her a lot. "I didn’t know how to react—I was so numb. Mere aur bhi interviews the, but after hearing this, I couldn’t go for any other interview. Bachpan se mujhe is baat par bahut kuch suna hai, ki main kaali hoon—bahut bullying face ki hai. No matter how much confidence I show, it hurt me deeply when she said that. Kuch cheezein hum kitna bhi normalise kar lein, nahi hoti hain."

In the video, the text on the screen reads: "Not qualified? No, just not light-skinned enough. I didn't lose the job. My skin did. Rejected because of my skin colour. The struggle is real." The viral video shared on Instagram on the account 'lifeofswa' one day ago received 3.3 million views from social media users.
Many users were quick to react to the viral video. One user wrote, "Don't cry, princess, you are the best." "Better hire a model and pay her enough? Ohh, they can't.!! Don't be shy to call out these companies!!! Like it's 2025 and people are still considering skin colour a requirement for a job?" a second user added. "All i heard from this reel is that the interviewer wants a person who is welcoming and approachable and it has nothing to do with the skin, and I heard you say that interviewer said it not about your skin colour you should not make it such a big issue I wish you get a good job and all the best wishes for it," added a third user.
