22 YEARS OF THE DELHI METRO

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation successfully completed 22 years of its passenger transportation operations in Delhi and other satellite cities.

WHEN WAS IT INAUGURATED?

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) flagged off its first train, TS-01, on December 24, 2002. The first train ran from Kashmiri Gate to Seelampur.

WHO WAS THE FIRST PASSENGER?

The Delhi Metro was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He bought the first ticket and was the first passenger to travel in the Delhi Metro.

HOW MANY COACHES WERE THERE?

The Delhi Metro TS-01 train began with four coaches in 2002. In 2014, it expanded to six coaches to meet the growing demand. In 2023, eight coaches were launched.

DISTANCE COVERED BY DELHI METRO

As per the Delhi Metro official website, the TS-01 has covered approximately 27 lakh kilometres. A total of 5.4 crore passengers have travelled in the Delhi Metro.
