Celebrate the vibrant festival of Holi with homemade gujiyas, a traditional sweet delicacy filled with khoya, nuts, and aromatic spices. Here's a step-by-step recipe for making gujiya at home.

Ingredients

All-purpose flour (maida), ghee (clarified butter), water for kneading the dough, grated khoya, powdered sugar, chopped nuts, desiccated coconut, cardamom powder, Oil for deep frying.

Prepare The Dough

In a mixing bowl, add all-purpose flour and ghee. Rub the ghee into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Prepare The Filling

Heat a pan over medium heat and add grated khoya. Cook it until it turns light golden brown. Add powdered sugar, chopped nuts, desiccated coconut, and cardamom powder to the khoya.

Shape The Gujiyas

Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. Place a spoonful of the prepared filling in the center of each circle. Moisten the edges with water and fold the circle in half to form a semicircle.

Fry The Gujiyas

Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully slide in a few gujiyas at a time. Fry the gujiyas until they turn golden brown and crisp on both sides.

Serve

Let the gujiyas cool completely before serving. Enjoy these delicious homemade gujiyas as a festive treat for Holi!

Note

You can store the gujiyas in an airtight container once they have cooled completely. They stay fresh for a few days.
