Uganda's army chief and son of the country's President, Yoweri Museveni, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has issued a 30-day ultimatum to Turkey, demanding $1 billion and the country's most beautiful woman as a wife. His bizarre demand came with a warning to sever diplomatic ties with Ankara if his terms are not met within 30 days.
The Ugandan army chief, in his now-deleted X post, said, "On top of the $1 billion from Turkey, I want the most beautiful woman in that country for a wife".
In earlier posts, he also wrote, “Let them pay us and surrender the wives! They'll be at peace.”
Why did Kainerugaba target Turkey?
Kainerugaba accused Ankara of profiting from infrastructure and port deals in Somalia while troops from Uganda have spent nearly two decades fighting Al-Shabab militants.
Over the past few decades, Turkey has built strong relations with Somalia, spanning areas such as defence. Turkey has built ties through infrastructure projects, military training, and port/airport operations, especially in Mogadishu.
Kainerugaba said, "I don't want conflict with Turkey. They have no chance of surviving us." "For Turkey it's a really simple deal... Either they pay us or I close their embassy here. They can reciprocate and shut our embassy in Turkey as well. No problem," another post on X read.
Kainerugaba's past controversial statements
Kainerugaba is not new to making outlandish remarks. In fact, he has been a reason for diplomatic embarrassment for Uganda quite a few times.
In 2022, he suggested that Uganda could invade neighbouring Kenya and capture the capital, Nairobi, in two weeks.

After a massive diplomatic backlash, his father's government had to issue a public apology and temporarily remove him from command.
In the same year, he had also offered 100 Ankole cows to Italian PM Georgia Meloni for a marriage, threatening to capture Rome if rejected.
In 2024, he stirred another global row by offering to deploy 100,000 soldiers to protect "the Holy Land" in Israel.
