A Japanese woman who spent years raising her seriously ill son alone while her husband frequently stayed away for work later uncovered a shocking truth about her marriage: her husband had engaged in as many as 520 affairs and was diagnosed with sex addiction. Rather than seeking revenge, she chose to protect her child and channel her trauma into creative healing.

According to Japanese magazine Shukan Bunshun, Nemu Kusano married her husband after being introduced by a friend. Describing him as “serious and shy,” Kusano believed she had found a dependable partner and never suspected infidelity in the early years of their marriage.

Soon after the wedding, Kusano gave birth to a son who was diagnosed with an extremely rare illness affecting fewer than 30 people worldwide. The diagnosis dramatically altered her life. While her husband worked long hours and was often absent from home, Kusano became the primary caregiver, managing hospital visits, medical procedures, and round-the-clock care alone.

 Condoms, Apps And Double Life

As she struggled to cope with exhaustion and emotional stress, Kusano began noticing troubling signs in her husband’s behaviour. She found condoms in his bag, aphrodisiacs in his pockets, and unusual app notifications on his phone. Growing suspicious, she eventually pieced together evidence from phone records and chat histories, uncovering what she later described as a staggering 520 affairs.

Reports revealed that her husband had relationships with escorts and adult film actresses while Kusano was caring for their son at home. When confronted, the man reportedly showed little remorse, claiming his actions were “work-related” and insisting that he did not bring stress home.

Distressed but determined to understand the situation, Kusano took her husband to a doctor, where he was diagnosed with sex addiction, a condition that, according to the diagnosis, had begun during his school years. Kusano later said that learning about sex addiction helped her process the betrayal and make sense of his behaviour.

Despite her anger and initial thoughts of retaliation, Kusano decided against taking revenge, fearing it would ultimately harm her son. For the child’s sake, she attempted communication and even accompanied her husband to therapy sessions.

The couple is now living separately, with Kusano raising her son on her own. In a bid to heal emotionally and share her experience, she collaborated with Japanese manga artist Piroyo Arai to adapt her story into a comic. Kusano has shared excerpts on Instagram, where her candid portrayal of betrayal, resilience, and motherhood has resonated widely.
