The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for over 71 attacks across 51 locations in Balochistan as part of a large-scale mission termed as Operation Herof. According to a statement issued by BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the operations were launched to challenge Pakistan’s military control and demonstrate the group’s extensive territorial reach in the region. The organisation threatened a "new order becoming inevitable" in South Asia and urged India and the world to officially declare Pakistan a terrorist state, referencing what it asserts are decades of state terrorism and human rights abuses in Balochistan. The BLA has called on India and other global powers to stand firm against Pakistan.

What Is Operation Hero?

Operation Herof, launched in August of 2024, is a multi-phase armed struggle to reoccupy Balochistan as explained by the BLA. During its initial phase, the organisation reported they had killed more than 130 members of the Pakistani armed forces, taken control of highways, and occupied key installations, including a 20-hour occupation of a military complex in Bela. The group has described it as a multiphase effort to “reclaim Balochistan.”

Major Attacks Throughout Balochistan: Quetta, Kech, Panjgur, Mastung, Nushki

According to the BLA’s press release dated May 11, its militants conducted attacks on military convoys, check-posts, intelligence centers, and mineral transport vehicles, among others. In Quetta, it targeted 14 areas with grenade launchers and hand grenades, killing four Pakistani security personnel and wounding at least 11. In Mastung, militants were said to have ambushed a convoy in the Khadkocha area, burning vehicles that were carrying chromite and other minerals. In Nushki, the BLA is said to have captured the AhmedWal railway station and the Levies post, taking arms and subsequently burning the facility.

The report also mentions the use of remote-controlled IEDs, sniper fire, and roadside ambushes in Zamuran, Tolangi, and Kuluki regions, where BLA militants say they have neutralized Pakistani troops. Militants allegedly set up temporary checkpoints in Kech, Panjgur, and Hoshab, detaining police personnel and seizing weapons such as Kalashnikovs, pistols, G3 rifles, and grenade launchers. "The BLA is neither pawn nor silent bystander; we are a dynamic and assertive party," BLA asserted. The assertion highlighted that the group operates on its own in the struggle for Balochistan's freedom. The organisation cautioned that ongoing international tolerance of Pakistan might contribute to broader regional instability, asserting, “If Pakistan continues to be tolerated, its very existence may lead to the ruin of the entire world.”
