Pakistan’s government on Thursday announced the arrest of four suspected militants linked to the deadly suicide attack at Islamabad’s Judicial Complex earlier this week. The suspects are believed to be members of the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group ideologically aligned with the Afghan Taliban but operating independently.
According to an official statement, a joint operation carried out by the Intelligence Bureau and the Counter-Terrorism Department led to the arrests. One of the men, identified as Sajidullah alias Sheena, allegedly served as the handler of the suicide bomber.
During interrogation, Sheena reportedly confessed that TTP commander Saeed-ur-Rehman alias Daadullah contacted him via Telegram, instructing him to carry out a high-casualty attack targeting law enforcement personnel in the capital. Daadullah, originally from Bajaur’s Charmang area, is said to be living in Afghanistan and currently serving as the TTP’s Intelligence Chief for Nawagai.
Bomber Identified; Shelter Arranged In Islamabad
As per the government’s briefing, Daadullah sent Sheena photographs of the bomber, identified as Usman alias Qari, a Shinwari tribesman from Achin in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province. After crossing into Pakistan, Usman was provided shelter near Islamabad by Sheena.
Investigators say Sheena collected a fully prepared suicide jacket from Akhun Baba graveyard in Peshawar, transported it to Islamabad, and fitted it onto the bomber shortly before the explosion at the Judicial Complex. The attack killed and injured multiple people, marking one of the most serious militant incidents in the capital in recent months.
Militant Cell ‘Dismantled’, Probe Expands
Authorities claimed that the cell involved in planning and executing the blast, including its commander and three accomplices, has now been dismantled. More arrests are expected as the investigation expands.
The announcement came days after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif alleged that militant groups “active with Indian support” were behind the attack. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif escalated rhetoric against the Afghan Taliban, saying the bombing was a deliberate “message from Kabul.”
“The rulers of Kabul can stop terrorism in Pakistan, but bringing this war to Islamabad is a message, and Pakistan has full strength to respond,” Asif posted on X.
