Panic spread like wildfire on social media upon the spreading of viral posts that claimed the notorious haunted Annabelle doll had somehow disappeared during a purported ghost tour in Louisiana. The scare intensified following a fire at the historic Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, with online users quickly connecting the eerie incident to the doll’s alleged presence in the state.
The Annabelle doll, made famous by the paranormal investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren and later immortalised in the Conjuring franchise, is widely believed to be cursed. Normally housed in the Warrens Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, the doll is a vintage Raggedy Ann figure encased in a blessed glass box to contain its demonic energy. Speculation soon started running wild after a few social media users on X (formerly known as Twitter) declared the haunted doll was "missing." Frantic tweet screenshots soon went viral, reflecting the atmosphere of widespread confusion and terror. "THEY LOST THE ANNABELLE DOLL?? LIKE?? THE HAUNTED ANNABELLE DOLL??" tweeted one user.

The #AnnabelleMissing hashtag trended, with thousands posting memes, conspiracy theories, and paranormal speculations. Some users associated the disappearance of the doll with the fire that occurred in Nottoway Plantation, one of Louisiana's largest antebellum mansions.
In order to bring an end to the increasing mania, the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) made an official statement, as reported by the Indian Express. Senior NESPR representative Dan Rivera uploaded a video online specifically rebutting the accusations. Rivera is seen in the video going through the Warrens Occult Museum and directly pointing at the Annabelle doll, securely locked inside its glass container. "She is NOT lost," the statement announced. "Annabelle is home safe within the museum in Connecticut… for now." The video served to debunk the mounting myths, comforting believers and skeptics alike that the cursed doll had not escaped its assigned containment. Local officials also asserted that there is no record connecting the Annabelle doll with the Nottoway Plantation fire, which broke out a few days before the viral frenzy. The investigators are working on tracing the source of the fire, but the officials confirm it was an accident and had nothing to do with any kind of parapsychological activity.
