The United States Air Force on Sunday conducted strikes at three nuclear sites of Iran amid rising tensions in the Middle East. US President Donald Trump, in his address from the White House, said Tehran’s nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan were ‘completely obliterated’ in the operation.

US B-2 bombers were used in precise attacks. The aircraft took off from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri on Friday night and remained in the sky for over 37 hours before carrying out the attacks. While covering the distance from Missouri to Tehran, these aircraft were refuelled multiple times in mid-air.

According to Trump, six bunker-buster bombs were dropped on Fordow, and Iran's other nuclear sites were destroyed using 30 Tomahawk missiles. The Pentagon has also confirmed the involvement of American B-2 bombers in the attack on Iran.

According to data from FlightRadar24, eight US Air Force KC-135 Stratotankers took off from Altus in Oklahoma for refuelling of the B-2 Bombers. According to CNN, two groups of aircraft—using the callsigns MYTEE11 FLT and MYTEE21 FLT—were refuelled mid-air by tankers over Kansas, as heard in air traffic control communications.

Trump hailed the military operation against Iran and warned the nation against further misadventure. The US President said it was now Iran’s responsibility to establish peace in the region, adding that an operation of greater magnitude could follow if the latter did not comply.

"Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror. Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated," Trump said.

"Iran, bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks would be far greater and easier. For 40 years, Iran has been saying death to Israel, death to the US. They have been killing our people, blowing off their arms, blowing off their legs with roadside bombs... So many were killed by their general, Qasem Soleimani. I decided a long time ago that I would not let this happen. It will not continue," he added.
