Amid a powerful earthquake in Thailand, doctors in Bangkok performed an extraordinary delivery on the street outside the Police General Hospital. The mother, undergoing surgery when the tremors struck on Friday, was swiftly evacuated by medical teams as the hospital was deemed unsafe. Surrounded by healthcare workers, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy on a stretcher in the open air, according to hospital spokesperson Police Colonel Sirikul Srisanga.

Social media footage captured the dramatic scene, showing the woman on a stretcher as staff assisted her delivery, with other patients also moved to the hospital courtyard for ongoing care. The Thai Enquirer reported that the woman was in mid-surgery when the quake hit. "We were closing her abdominal wall when the shaking started. The team stabilised her and evacuated her to a safer spot," explained Police Lieutenant Colonel Jiramrit.

He further noted the urgency of the situation: "To avoid complications like intestinal herniation or exposure of her bowels, we completed the abdominal closure outside in a sterile setup, finishing in just 10 minutes." Both mother and baby are now stable and recovering in a hospital room. The hospital, lacking a tailored earthquake protocol, relied on Fire Evacuation Plan 3, prioritising patient safety. Patients were shifted to three safe zones while engineers evaluated the building's structural soundness.
