Bangladesh Plane Crash: In a harrowing incident, a training aircraft belonging to the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into the campus of Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday afternoon, claiming 19 lives and leaving several others injured.  Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and confusion as the aircraft spiralled out of control before plummeting into the school premises with a deafening roar. The crash occurred at a time when students and staff were present on the campus, although it remains unclear how many were directly impacted by the incident.

The initial footage from the site, now widely circulating on social media, shows a massive fireball engulfing the area shortly after the aircraft made impact, with thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.

The F-7 BGI fighter jet, used for training purposes by the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF), went down during what was described as a routine flight. The crash occurred in a densely populated residential area around the school, where classes were in session and children were present on campus. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the aircraft lose control before plunging into the school compound.

The Bangladesh Army’s public relations office confirmed the crash of the aircraft and stated that an official investigation has been launched. Fire service officer Lima Khanam, as quoted by the Associated Press, confirmed one fatality and at least four injuries. However, no further details on the victims were immediately available.

Terrifying video footage aired by local television channels showed thick plumes of black smoke and flames erupting from the crash site. Screams and shouts echoed as panicked parents rushed to the scene, many frantically trying to reach their children still inside the school compound. “My son studies in Class VI and is inside the campus. I don’t know what his situation is right now,” said one visibly distressed mother at the site.

Firefighters, Air Force, and BGB in Action

Eight firefighting units from various fire service stations, including Uttara, Tongi, Pallabi, Kurmitola, Mirpur, and Purbachal, were deployed to control the fire and assist with the rescue operation. Talha Bin Zashim, a media official from the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), confirmed their ongoing efforts. A BAF rescue team also joined the mission, along with several ambulances that transported the injured to nearby hospitals.

To help maintain order and assist in the rescue work, two platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed to the scene, according to Shariful Islam, the BGB’s public relations officer. Local residents and students of Milestone School actively helped first responders, forming human chains to move debris and aid the injured.
