Iran Israel War: Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation has officially acknowledged that three of its nuclear sites were targeted in early morning strikes by the United States on Sunday. The affected facilities are located in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. While Iran has not disclosed the scale of damage, it has strongly condemned the strikes, accusing the United States and Israel of breaching international law.

In a statement shared by Iran’s embassy in India on X (formerly Twitter), the atomic body claimed that the attacks were part of a “brutal assault” carried out by what it described as the “Zionist enemy.” The organisation called the move an open violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and international regulations.

The Iranian nuclear agency further stated that the strikes occurred under the “indifference and even complicity” of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), despite the fact that the targeted sites are subject to regular IAEA inspections as per the Safeguards Agreement and the NPT.

The agency stressed that the recent aatack would not hinder the country’s nuclear progress. “We will not let our peaceful nuclear industry be stopped by enemy conspiracies,” the statement read. It added that Iran’s nuclear programme, which it described as built on the sacrifice of “nuclear martyrs,” would continue with the support of Iranian scientists and experts. The organisation also said that legal steps would be taken to defend Iran’s national rights.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Abbas Araghchi, issued a separate statement criticising the US military action. He claimed that the strikes were a serious violation of the UN Charter and international law. He warned that the consequences of these actions would be long-lasting and stated that Iran reserves the right to defend itself as per the UN Charter.

Meanwhile, President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron and warned that Iran’s response to any continued aggression from Israel would be more severe. His comments were reported by Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency.

Despite the attacks, Iranian officials have assured the public that there is no immediate threat to civilians, especially those living in areas near the impacted nuclear facilities. Authorities from Qom province, where the underground Fordo site is situated, confirmed that there was no danger to the local population.

The strikes were carried out by the United States military, according to former US President Donald Trump. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that American forces had dropped a full payload of bombs on the Fordo facility and had safely exited Iranian airspace. He described the operation as “very successful” and insisted that Iran must now agree to end the ongoing conflict.

Trump also reiterated that Iran should never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances.
