  1. Private Learjet crashed in Florida, killing all nine onboard.
  2. Pilot reported emergency, ice, and turbulence before impact.
  3. Crash created flaming crater near Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.

The aftermath of the missile-like crash of a Bahamas-bound private jet in Florida's Palm Beach County left behind a flaming crater in the middle of a residential road. The footage shows patches of fire, pieces of concrete, and scattered debris from the Learjet 60 aircraft.

According to US media reports and flight analysis, the jet plummeted at hundreds of feet per second before its nose hit the ground, leaving all nine onboard dead. Audio from inside the aircraft revealed the pilot declaring an emergency, yelling, "We are in an overspeed condition descending 20,000 feet per minute," according to a CBS report.

"We're gonna crash ... We're out of time," the pilot told the tower. Records from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) place the crash as the second deadliest in the United States this year. Earlier in June, a skydiving plane crash in Butler, Missouri, killed 12 people.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that there were no reports of any deaths on the ground after the crash. While speaking to CNN, DeSantis described the crash like "a missile going down."

FAA, NTSB to investigate crash

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called the crash a "horrific tragedy." The private business jet had departed from Austin in Texas and was en route to the Bahamas when the tragedy unfolded. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will join the probe with the NTSB, which is already on the ground.

In a statement, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said that the crash occurred near Military Trail, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. The location is near US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.

Trump left residence an hour before crash

According to reports, the US President was at his residence on Sunday morning (local time) but departed about an hour before the crash.

Thunderstorms were reported in the area before the crash. Air traffic control radio call recordings suggest that the pilot had reported ice accumulating on the aircraft while outside temperature dropped to -47 degrees Celsius.

Moderate turbulence, bouncing the aircraft by up to 700 feet, was also reported by the pilot. "We have light, clear ice that is manageable and moderate turbulence," the pilot told the Miami Air Route Traffic Control Centre on the radio.
