'Business Is Not Mosque Roll Call': Indian Exhibitor Targeted at Riyadh Trade Event; Video Goes Viral

A video circulating on social media from a trade exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has triggered widespread outrage after an Indian exhibitor was allegedly harassed and mocked over his religious identity. The clip shows a Saudi man making derogatory remarks about an Indian company’s stall, reportedly calling it a “Hindu company” and questioning why no Muslim staff were present.

The video, which has not been independently verified, appears to pan across a stall belonging to Indian engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T). In the background, the man can be heard sneering that the firm did not have “even one Muslim” at the booth. The Indian exhibitor is briefly seen recording the interaction on his phone before lowering it, visibly unsettled by the remarks.

Amjad Taha Condemns ‘Blatant Racism’

The controversy gained momentum after UAE-based political analyst Amjad Taha shared the video on X, strongly criticising the behaviour and calling it “blatant racism.” He rejected the insinuation that being Indian or Hindu was in any way derogatory and defended India’s civilisational heritage.

“Indian is not an insult. Business is not a mosque roll call, and faith policing has no place in modern society,” Taha wrote, describing the incident as “shameful” and “absolutely unacceptable.”

Social Media Users Rally Behind Exhibitor

The clip sparked a flood of reactions online, with many users expressing solidarity with the Indian exhibitor and condemning religious intolerance. Several posts highlighted L&T’s global stature, noting that it is a multinational conglomerate with operations spanning infrastructure, defence, and heavy engineering, and a valuation running into tens of billions of dollars.

The identities of the individuals involved and the organisers of the exhibition have not been publicly confirmed. As of now, there has been no official response from Saudi authorities or from Larsen & Toubro regarding the incident.
