Amid ongoing political disturbance, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is soon expected to announce his resignation as the Liberal Party leader, Reuters reported, citing Globe and Mail reports. The report on Sunday stated that the Canadian PM can resign as early as Monday amid the ongoing tussle.
Though the exact date of his resignation is still a suspense, it is likely to happen before a national caucus meeting on Wednesday. Trudeau is likely to resign before his term ends because of raising opposing voices outside and even from within the party leaders. Over the past few months, Trudeau has been defensive over several issues, including inflation, immigration, and foreign policies.

Amid the reports suggesting the possibilities of his resignation this week, the Canadian prime minister's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours. However, the report stated that it remained unclear whether Trudeau will leave the post immediately or will continue to serve the post until a new leader is selected by the party members.
It is called a transition phase in the politics of Canada, as most of the polls suggest that Trudeau's Liberal Party is set to face heavy defeat at the hands of the Conservatives in the election, due in October. Trudeau's departure will leave the party searching for a credible face and could even make the situation worse for the party in the upcoming elections. Trudeau took charge of the party in 2013 when the party was struggling and had been reduced to third place in the House of Commons for the first time since then.

Trudeau's resignation is likely to be followed by the calls for an early election so that the new government will have better coordination with the Trump administration in the US. Trudeau has reportedly consulted Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc to step in as an interim leader and prime minister.
