A huge controversy was sparked after a woman in Canada claimed that she got sacked from Tim Hortons as she questioned the hiring strategy of the company. She claimed that the multinational coffeehouse and restaurant chain sacked her after she raised her voice and claimed that hiring practices favoured Indians.

The incident came into the limelight as there is a massive ongoing debate related to immigration policies in Canada. A user in a post on X wrote that an employee was sacked just because she questioned the hiring practices. “This woman noticed Indian managers of Tim Hortons were hiring only other Indian immigrants; when she confronted the discriminatory hiring, she was fired,” said the post.

The post also comprised the post of the employee who got fired. “Just got fired from Tim Hortons after 4 years. Just because I called out management for only hiring "Indians." So now I’m exposing everything they make us hide,” the text on the post said. The post has ignited a debate on the immigration policy of the country. A user wrote, “She should definitely make a complaint; there are laws against 1 hiring only from 1 ethnicity and 2 retaliation against employees. She’ll probably win big if she sues them.”

“That’s called racial discrimination; it’s highly illegal and violates equal employment opportunity laws by favoring one race over another. You should get a good lawyer,” another user wrote.

To curb the number of immigrant workers, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month announced changes to the country's international work permit system. In a post on X, Trudeau explained that Canada would grant 35 per cent fewer international student permits this year, with the number going down by another 10 per cent next year. Lately, Justin Trudeau had to face backlash from the native citizens over the policies that allegedly promoted the immigrants and gave them priority.
