Charlie Kirk shooting: Charlie James Kirk, the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was shot and killed at the age of 31 while addressing students during an “American Comeback Tour” event at Utah Valley University. The incident occurred around noon on Tuesday when the prominent right-wing activist was responding to a student’s question on mass shootings.
According to eyewitnesses, a single gunshot struck Kirk in the neck, forcing him to collapse on stage as security personnel rushed to his aid. Despite being administered immediate medical attention, Kirk succumbed to his injuries later in the day, sending shockwaves across the conservative movement in the United States.
Utah Valley University (UVU) officials confirmed that multiple law enforcement agencies are involved in the probe, including the Orem Police Department, the Utah Department of Public Safety, and the FBI. University spokesperson Ellen Treanor told The New York Times, “There is no suspect in custody; it remains an active investigation. We are fully cooperating with federal authorities to ensure justice is served.”
Earlier in the evening, FBI Director Kash Patel said that a suspect had been detained for questioning but declined to provide details on whether the shooter had any political affiliations. Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the act, stating the attack appeared to have been carried out by a lone individual.
'A Martyr For Truth': Trump Pays Tribute
Reacting to the assassination, US President Donald Trump described Charlie Kirk as a “martyr for truth” and blamed the rhetoric of the “radical left” for creating an atmosphere of hostility. In a video message shared on Truth Social, Trump said, “For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism we are seeing today, and it must stop immediately.”
Calling Kirk “The Great, and even Legendary,” the President added, “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me. Melania and I extend our sympathies to his beautiful wife, Erika, and their family. Charlie, we love you.” The White House later confirmed that all American flags across the United States will be flown at half-mast in Kirk’s honor.
