Studio Ghibli image generation is now free: Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced that ChatGPT's image generation feature is now accessible to free users. The move follows an overwhelming reaction to the newly introduced AI image creation tool, which has gained traction on social media, especially for its Studio Ghibli-inspired artwork. Previously, this feature was exclusive to paid subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team plans, while free users were limited to creating up to three images daily.

Due to its soaring popularity among premium users, OpenAI has now made it available to all free-tier accounts. Altman shared the update on X, stating, "ChatGPT image gen now rolled out to all free users." "We will not do anything silly like saying that you can't use our open model if your service has more than 700 million monthly active users. We want everyone to use it!" added Altman.

Amid the massive popularity of the platform, Altman on Saturday, went on to social media and urged the users to "chill" as his team needed to take a rest. "Can you all slow down with the pictures? Our team is tired, and the servers are struggling!" Someone replied, "Make it worse, or people will stop using it." Altman shot back, "We're making it better, not worse, but please chill a little!"

Sam Altman reacts to PM Modi's Ghibli-style animation

Earlier today, the tech-tycoon responded to a social media post showcasing Prime Minister Narendra Modi reimagined in a Studio Ghibli-style animation on Tuesday. The visuals, posted by My Gov, the official Government of India account on X, captured PM Modi in diverse scenes: exchanging a handshake with US President Donald Trump, striking a pose alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, interacting playfully with lion cubs, and paying a visit to the Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya. The caption accompanying the post stated, "Main character? No. He's the whole storyline Experience through New India in Studio Ghibli strokes." Altman shared the post, adding an Indian flag emoji to his repost.

This is not the first time when Altman shared India's content on the social media platform, X. Earlier on March 27, Altman shared a post by the Indian Post, depicting two postmasters.

Copyright Issue

ChatGPT maker OpenAI, which is fighting copyright lawsuits over its flagship chatbot, has largely encouraged the "Ghiblification" experiments and its CEO Sam Altman changed his profile on social media platform X into a Ghibli-style portrait. In a technical paper posted Tuesday, the company had said the new tool would be taking a “conservative approach” in the way it mimics the aesthetics of individual artists.
