A tragic railway accident in China’s southern Yunnan province claimed the lives of 11 railway workers on Thursday (Nov 27) after a test train collided with a group of maintenance personnel. Two others were injured in the incident, which occurred inside the Luoyang Town Railway Station in Kunming, the provincial capital.

According to Kunming Railway Station, the workers had entered a curved section of the track when the train, identified as Test Train No. 55537, approached. The train was conducting routine seismic equipment testing when it “passed normally through a curve” and struck the workers who were on the track at the time. The curved nature of the section is believed to have limited visibility, contributing to the devastating collision.

State broadcaster CCTV reported that railway and local authorities immediately activated emergency response protocols. Rescue teams were deployed swiftly, and the injured workers were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Station operations later resumed after safety checks were completed.
