The X (formerly Twitter) accounts of Global Times and TRT World were restored after being temporarily blocked by India earlier in the day. The Indian government had ordered the block, accusing the accounts of spreading misinformation and propaganda.
On Wednesday, India blocked the X accounts of Chinese state-run outlets Global Times and Xinhua, along with the Turkish public broadcaster TRT World, in response to legal demands.

The action was confirmed by the social media platform, which stated that it complied with India's legal requirements.
When users in India tried to access the TRT World profile earlier this morning, they were greeted with the message: "Account Withheld. This account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand."
These actions come amid escalating tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, followed by India’s military response, Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
On May 8, X confirmed that it had received official orders from the Indian government to block over 8,000 accounts within Indian jurisdiction. The platform warned that failing to comply could result in significant financial penalties and criminal liability for its local employees. These orders were issued under the Information Technology Act and affected both international media outlets and prominent individuals.
Indian Embassy Denounces Global Times as 'Baseless'
Global Times, an English-language newspaper affiliated with the People’s Daily (which is owned by the Chinese Communist Party), and Xinhua, China’s state-run news agency, have been at the centre of the controversy.
On May 7, following India’s launch of Operation Sindoor, the Indian embassy in Beijing fact-checked a post by Global Times, calling it “baseless.”

When media outlets share such information without verifying sources, it reflects a serious lapse in responsibility and journalistic ethics.
“Several pro-Pakistan accounts are spreading false claims about Operation Sindoor, aiming to mislead the public,” the embassy said. “When media outlets share such unverified information, it shows a serious failure in responsibility and journalistic ethics.”
Turkey’s Support for Pakistan
TRT World, the TV channel operated by Turkey’s public broadcaster, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, was also involved in the controversy.
The ban followed the Indian Ministry of External Affairs' concerns over Turkey's support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, India’s military retaliation after the Pahalgam attack. Meanwhile, TRT World’s website, X account and Instagram account remain accessible.
This development coincides with a statement from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who declared, “Long live Pakistan-Turkey friendship!”
