China will begin accepting visa applications online in India starting December 22, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong announced on Monday, marking a major step towards easing travel between the two countries.

Sharing the update on social media platform X, Ambassador Xu said the China Online Visa Application System will be officially launched by the Chinese Embassy in India, allowing applicants to fill out forms and upload required documents digitally through the official platform. The move is aimed at improving convenience and streamlining the visa process for Indian travellers planning to visit China.

Digital Framework

According to a notice issued by the Chinese Embassy in India, applicants will be able to access the new system through the official website and complete most of the paperwork online before visiting the visa centre, reducing waiting time and simplifying the procedure.

In his post, Xu Feihong wrote, “China Online Visa Application System will be officially launched by the Chinese Embassy in India on December 22, 2025. Applicants could enjoy convenience of filling out the form and uploading application materials online.”

New Delhi Visa Centre To Continue In-Person Services

The Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi will continue to handle in-person services. The centre operates from Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. It is located at the concourse floor of Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place, New Delhi. Applicants can contact the centre for further queries.

The announcement comes amid a gradual normalisation of people-to-people ties between India and China. In November 2025, India lifted restrictions on tourist visas for Chinese nationals, ending a nearly five-year suspension imposed after the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had stated that tourist and business visas for Chinese nationals are now fully functional. The visa resumption is part of broader “people-centric” confidence-building measures agreed by both countries in 2025, which also included the resumption of direct commercial flights and the revival of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra pilgrimage.
