Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday reportedly left the White House without signing the Minerals Deal after a heated argument with the US President Donald Trump. The US president reportedly did not show interest in the deal after the conversation between him, Zelenskyy and the US Vice President JD Vance. While Trump reminded Zelenskyy of the support US had provided to Ukraine, he also berated Zelenskyy for being "disrespectful".
While both of the state heads had planned to sign an agreement in a close room and hold a joint conference to discuss the details, Trump suggested Zelenskyy to come back when he was "actually" ready for any peace talks. Earlier on Thursday, Trump stated that the mineral deals could be the first step towards restoration of peace in the Ukraine.
America Is Our Friend, Russia Is Enemy- Zelenskyy
Earlier in the meeting, Trump scolded Zelenskyy for allegedly not being "thankful" to the US and reminded him that the Ukrainian President was in no condition to ask for more help. Trump emphasised that the US is also not considering to send a lot of arms to the Ukraine. "We're not looking forward to sending a lot of arms," Trump said. "We're looking forward to getting the war finished so we can do other things," he added.
Apart from this, the Trump administration is reportedly also considering to end all the ongoing shipments of military aid to Ukraine after the meeting. This decision, if taken, would apply to vehicles, ammunition and missiles awaiting shipment to Ukraine through the presidential drawdown authority.
In an interview after the meeting, Zelenskyy stated that the "spat" was not good for both of the countries. “This kind of spat is not good for both sides. I’m very open but I can’t change our Ukrainian attitude to Russia. They are killers to us. This is very clear to us. America is our friend, Europe is our friend … Russia is our enemy. It doesn’t mean we don’t want peace,” Zelenskyy was quoted as saying by Fox News.
