Delta Airlines Plane Crash: A Delta Air Lines flight crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, leaving 17 passengers injured but miraculously no fatalities. The aircraft, Delta Flight 4819, which had taken off from Minneapolis at 11:47 am (11:17pm IST), overturned upon landing on a snow-covered runway, causing chaos at Canada’s busiest airport.

According to airport officials, the crash occurred at approximately 2:15 pm ET(12:45 am IST). The plane, a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR operated by Delta’s regional subsidiary Endeavor Air, carried 76 passengers and four crew members. Among them, 22 passengers were Canadian nationals.

Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, with first responders working tirelessly to evacuate all 80 individuals onboard before the aircraft erupted into flames. Deborah Flint, President and CEO of Toronto Pearson International Airport, praised the quick actions of emergency crews.

"There was no loss of life, and this is due in part to our heroic and trained professionals, our first responders at the airport," Flint said during a press briefing Monday evening.

Peel Region paramedics initially reported eight injuries but later revised the count to 17. While most passengers sustained minor injuries, three were critically wounded, including a pediatric patient, a man in his 60s, and a woman in her 40s. They were transported to different hospitals for treatment.

Terrifying Moments Captured On Video

Dramatic footage of the crash aftermath showed the aircraft flipped upside down on the snowy runway, with its wing severely crumpled and its tail section partially detached. The scene was further obscured by the heavy snowfall from a winter storm that had hit Toronto over the weekend.

Another video showed two firefighters leaping out of the plane’s side door just moments before an explosion engulfed the fuselage in flames. Dazed passengers could be seen scrambling away from the wreckage as emergency teams rushed to their aid.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash. Aviation experts and safety investigators are now examining flight data, weather conditions, and potential mechanical failures to understand what led to the mishap.

Delta AirlinesCEO released a statement emphasising their commitment to passenger safety:

"The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport. I want to express my thanks to the many Delta and Endeavor team members and the first responders on site. We are working to confirm the details and will share the most current information on news.delta.com as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe," he wrote.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also addressed the crash on social media, stating, “I’ve been in touch with my counterpart in Canada to offer assistance and help with the investigation.”

Despite the severity of the crash, the quick response from emergency crews ensured that all passengers made it out alive.  For now, Toronto Pearson International Airport remains operational, though some flights experienced delays due to the accident.
