Delta Airlines fire: A Delta Air Lines plane carrying nearly 300 passengers suffered an engine fire after pushing back from the gate at Orlando International Airport in Florida on Monday, forcing the passengers to evacuate using slides, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The Airbus A330 was set to depart for Atlanta when the engine caught fire around 11:15 a.m. EDT. The FAA said it will investigate. The engine fire is the latest in a series of high-profile aviation incidents that have raised questions about US aviation safety, including the January 29 mid-air collision of an American Airlines regional jet and an Army helicopter near Reagan Washington National Airport that killed 67 people.

Oh.

A Delta airlines plane engine caught on fire at the airport in Orlando, Florida.

Almost 300 people were forced to evacuate.

Delta Airlines says no one injured

Delta said Flight 1213 had 282 passengers and 12 crew members and there were no initial reports of injuries. Delta flight crews "followed procedures to evacuate the passenger cabin when flames in the tailpipe of one of the aircraft's two engines were observed." A social media user posted a dramatic video of what appeared to be a serious fire and flames coming from the Airbus plane and another video of passengers exiting the plane via a slide.

Orlando International Airport said in a social media post that the fire occurred on the ramp area and that the airport's aircraft rescue and fire fighting team promptly responded. Airbus did not immediately comment. Delta said maintenance teams will examine the aircraft and the airline will bring in additional aircraft to help customers reach their final destinations on Monday.

In March, an engine on an American Airlines jet caught fire after the plane diverted to Denver, forcing the evacuation of passengers onto the wing of the airplane. The engine caught fire while taxiing to the gate.

Delta Airlines nearly crashed

It is worth mentioning this was not the first time when Delta Airlines came into the limelight. Earlier last month, a Delta Air Lines plane almost crashed into a US Air Force jet near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, not far from where a deadly crash happened in January, killing 67 people. The Delta flight, heading to Minneapolis- St. Paul, had just taken off around 3 pm. when a warning system in the cockpit told the pilots to quickly change course to avoid hitting another plane. The Delta pilot asked air traffic control if there was really a plane just 500 feet below them. The controller said yes. The military jet had come from a base in Virginia.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the Delta plane got a warning about another aircraft nearby while four Air Force jets were flying to Arlington National Cemetery for a ceremony. Air traffic controllers gave both planes new instructions to avoid a crash. The FAA will look into what happened.
