A Delta Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Wednesday after massive turbulence caused injuries to passengers, CBS News reported. According to reports, over 25 passengers were injured by "significant" in-flight turbulence.
The airport says Delta Air Lines Flight 56 en route from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam diverted to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, landing safely around 7:45 p.m.
Delta AirLines confirmed that Flight DL56 landed safely at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, where medical teams were on standby to assist upon arrival. According to the airline, 25 passengers were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment following the incident.
"Delta flight DL56 - flying from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam - diverted to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport Wednesday after the flight encountered significant turbulence while enroute," The Delta Airlines said in a statement.
Delta Airlines reacts to turbulence incident
An airport spokesperson told CNN that the flight was diverted due to severe turbulence mid-flight that resulted in onboard injuries. The aircraft touched down around 7:25 p.m. local time and was met at the gate by the airport’s fire department and paramedics, who provided immediate medical care before transporting several individuals for further treatment.

“We appreciate the swift response and support from emergency personnel,” Delta said in its statement.
"The aircraft, an Airbus A330-900, landed safely at MSP, and medical personnel met the flight upon arrival to evaluate customers and crew. Twenty-five of those on board were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and care. We are grateful for the support of all emergency responders involved," it added.
Aircraft experienced a rapid altitude change: Flightradar24
Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 indicated that the aircraft experienced a rapid altitude change approximately 40 minutes after takeoff, climbing more than 1,000 feet in under 30 seconds before descending about 1,350 feet shortly afterward. The flight then rerouted north toward Minneapolis, landing safely roughly 90 minutes later.
