Tucker Carlson, a renowned US journalist and conservative commentator, ignited a firestorm of controversy on Monday after alleging that the Joe Biden administration had tried to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin. Carlson's explosive claim has sparked fierce reactions from Russian officials, with some warning of dire consequences if such a plot were true.
Russian Parliament Speaker Vyacheslav VolodRussian President Vladimir Putinin responded to Carlson’s statement with grave concern, issuing a warning that any attempt to assassinate Putin would lead to catastrophic consequences, including the risk of nuclear war. Volodin took to Telegram, denouncing the very notion of an assassination plot, calling it "a serious threat to global security" and a "direct path to nuclear war". He further emphasised the severity of the situation, calling on international institutions to launch an investigation into the claim.
In his post, Volodin did not just stop at condemning the assassination plot suggestion; he also pointed out the broader implications for global security. "The plot to assassinate Putin, mere discussions of it, is a crime," Volodin wrote, stressing the international ramifications. He also urged the Russian people to recognise the seriousness of the threats facing their country.

Volodin Slams Biden, Blinken For Silence On Assassination Accusation
Volodin connected Carlson's claim to a pattern of similar incidents targeting prominent political figures. He pointed to an alleged attempt to attack Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, which was reportedly thwarted, and another attempt against Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Volodin also referenced an attack on former US President Donald Trump during his election campaign, suggesting that these events are not isolated incidents but part of a larger conspiracy.
In a strikingly critical tone, Volodin further noted that, despite the gravity of Carlson’s claim, neither US President Joe Biden nor Secretary of State Antony Blinken had issued any public denial of the accusation. Volodin expressed frustration at the silence surrounding the claim, indicating that the lack of a clear denial could be seen as tacit acknowledgment of the plot's veracity.
"Everyone is quiet. Neither Biden nor Blinken has denied what was said," Volodin commented, implying that the absence of a response further heightened the seriousness of the allegations.
